Thunderstorms in october??

I love it actually!! Im laying in bed and thunder is rolling outside the comfort of my sheets!! Its Oktoberfest season and it feels like Indian summer!! When will it end?? The extended winter forcast calls for a mild winter!! But as soon as they proclaim such a thing, mother winter drops a whopping 16 inches and the plows are busy burying my car in knee deep snow!! So why should they keep forcasters on the payroll?? Is it an art or a guesstimation??
