What to do about earache when swallowing?

it started out last night as a pain in my throat when i swallowed, but after about half an hour of that, i began to get a pain in my ear when i swallowed. my ear feels really plugged up and sleep didn't seem to help at all. is there anything i can do besides take a pain reliever? i can't go to the doctor until at least monday.
