Is an English Major worth it?

I was previously undecided but I recently switched to an English major. I'm a sophmore in college and unfortunately I'm not confident with my decision. I selected this major because I love to read. I'm attracted to limitless interpretations and l enjoy coming up with my own explication and opinions. But I'm not a pro at writing (mostly because I can't get past my perfectionist syndrome). Do you think that this is the right career path? After I declared my major I was bombarded by so much negativity like: "you can't get a job with this major," "no one wants to hire an asian when finding an english teacher," "go into the medical field because its more reliable with job opportunities." Can anyone, especially those with experience, tell me some opportunities available after I graduate jobwise? Can someone HONESTLY tell me if this major is even worth it? I try not to let money get in the way...if it was only me I wouldn't care and focus on my interests...but after college I need to help support my family especially parents...so money does matter.
