What is the word to describe excessive compliments to the point of making the person embared?

The word "flattery"comes to mind, but is there another word that is more precise for this situation? For example, a person might be annoyed and irritated about a given situation, and instead of being a jerk, might do the opposite; use flattery, politeness, and excessive compliments to bombard the other person into feeling uncomfortable.
